Hideyo is the work of Maya McDonell and Sam Beckman.
Hiding away in our home in the Tasmanian forest, our spare time is filled with music, bushwalking, and baking bread in our slow combustion oven. This is where we print, fold, photograph, and play lots of cards. We have been creating and working together since 2008.
Our shared passion is paper, with a preference for handmade paper as well as discarded and damaged books and magazines. We love the colours and textures these types of paper have to offer.
Hideyo ひでよ is a Japanese name, and Maya's mother's name. She was a talented and creative person, and we chose the name because Hideyo herself and Japanese design in general are both strong influences on what we do.
